Western markets are seeing an influx of used Chinese electric vehicles, which bypass import tariffs and quotas applied to new models. These vehicles are currently priced approximately 40% below their original manufacturer suggested retail price.

Data from the China EV Marketplace (CEVM) indicates that sales of pre-owned Chinese electric vehicles to European customers increased by 280% year over year. Through September, the company recorded 7,900 units sold.

The CEVM platform currently lists over 2,600 used electric vehicles from manufacturers including BYD, Geely, and Zeekr. The company reports that its inventory is updated daily with vehicles that often have as little as 6,000 km on the odometer.

According to CEVM COO Jakub Geršl, the company is prioritizing the pre-owned market because these cars are exempt from the additional battery-electric vehicle tariffs and hybrid import quotas that affect new car sales in the European Union.
