The Trump administration has suspended Microsoft, Adobe, and several other major technology firms from a government program that assists skilled foreign workers in obtaining permanent residency in the United States. Officials cited allegations of fraud as the primary reason for this decision.
The list of companies barred from the program includes Capgemini, Cognizant, HCL, Infosys, Tata, and Wipro. Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling confirmed that the government will no longer process any new or pending permanent labor certification applications submitted by these organizations.
Vice President JD Vance stated that the administration expects these companies to prioritize hiring domestic workers. The H-1B visa program, which these firms frequently utilize, is intended for highly skilled roles that are difficult to fill with the local workforce.
Additionally, the administration announced investigations into nine universities, including Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. Authorities allege these institutions are abusing programs for international students to suppress wages for American employees.
