The Los Angeles Police Department and the Miami-Dade Police Department have adopted an AI system named Raven to identify residential locations based on interior photographs. Developed by Graylark Technologies, the tool was originally known as GeoSpy and was later updated to include house identification capabilities.

The system functions by extracting distinctive details from images and cross-referencing them with public platforms such as Airbnb, Vrbo, and Zillow. During demonstrations, the software identified locations by analyzing appliances like washing machines and dryers, matching them with existing property listings.

GeoSpy was trained on several million images globally to recognize geographical markers, including architectural styles and soil types. Raven extends this functionality by incorporating interior data into its database, allowing it to find matches even when source images differ from public listings.

Following reports of misuse, Graylark Technologies restricted access to the tool, limiting it exclusively to government agencies and corporate clients. The deployment has raised privacy concerns, with representatives from Airbnb and Zillow noting that automated data scraping violates their terms of service.
