The US House Financial Services Committee is reviewing the American Reserve Modernization Act of 2026, designated as H.R. 8957. The legislative proposal aims to create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and a Digital Asset Stockpile managed by the Department of the Treasury.
According to Chairman French Hill, the bill intends to consolidate digital assets currently held by various federal agencies under the direct custody of the Treasury. These assets include Bitcoin and other digital holdings obtained through civil or criminal forfeiture processes.
The committee began the markup process for this measure on September 16, 2026. The initiative seeks to establish consistent federal oversight, aiming to improve transparency, security, and accountability regarding government-held digital assets.
The current legislative session also addresses several other financial topics. These include updates to bank lending regulations, fraud prevention strategies, consumer financial protections, housing policies, and the accountability of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
