The US government secured $627 million from the sale of an Anthropic stake previously held by former FTX executives Caroline Ellison and Nishad Singh. These shares were forfeited as proceeds of crime following the collapse of FTX and the subsequent legal proceedings against the company's leadership.
Anthropic filed its S-1 paperwork on October 26, detailing the forfeiture of 4,453,900 Series B shares. The company repurchased these shares from the government in October 2025 at a price of $140.9676 per share. Anthropic then resold the entire block to nine undisclosed investors at the same cost.
The proceeds from the sale were transferred to the FTX bankruptcy estate to compensate creditors. According to court filings, the Department of Justice sent $638 million to the estate in late 2025. This follows a previous sale of Sam Bankman-Fried’s own stake, which generated $1.3 billion in 2024.
The nine new investors now hold shares estimated to be worth approximately $3.94 billion based on a valuation of $1.5 trillion. Anthropic intends to list on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbol ANT, which will establish the final market price for these assets.
