US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are reportedly negotiating a collaborative agreement regarding data center infrastructure. Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev stated on October 16 that the two nations expect to announce details on this partnership in the near future.

This initiative follows a series of discussions between the US and Russia on economic cooperation. According to reports from Interfax, a concrete list of projects has been drafted, with several Russian companies participating in the preliminary stages of these plans.

The data center sector has become a significant political issue during the 2026 US mid-term election cycle. Public opposition to large-scale data center construction remains high, with 71% of Americans expressing disapproval of such projects, according to data cited by Time magazine.

The Nebius Group, formerly known as Yandex, is currently involved in a data center project in Vineland, New Jersey, known as DataOne. The company secured a five-year contract with Microsoft valued at $17.4 billion, with an additional option for services worth $2 billion.

The DataOne project in New Jersey has faced regulatory challenges, including two stop-work orders from the city of Vineland and fines from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for operating 62 natural gas generators without required permits.
