Engineers at Unibot have successfully bypassed regional network restrictions on the Quectel EG25-G modem integrated into the Unitree Go2 robot. The device, which utilizes an eSIM with an Orange profile, was previously unable to register on Russian cellular networks despite detecting them.
The technical process involved analyzing the modem's firmware, specifically the Qualcomm Hexagon code. Engineers identified a function responsible for blocking specific Mobile Country Codes (MCC). By modifying the firmware to change the MCC check for Russian networks, the team enabled successful registration.
The modification required updating the modem's firmware files, including the modem.b19 segment, and recalculating the SHA-256 hashes for the container. Since the modem's Secure Boot was disabled, the team was able to load the modified image without triggering security blocks.
Following the firmware update and a reboot, the modem successfully registered with the Beeline network. The robot's existing APN settings remained unchanged, and the device confirmed attachment to the packet network, restoring cellular connectivity for the Unitree Go2.
