Universal Music Group (UMG) has announced a multi-year partnership with ElevenLabs to develop an AI-powered platform. This service will allow fans to create remixes, mashups, and new interpretations using the label's licensed music catalog.

The platform will operate as a standalone product, distinct from existing ElevenLabs offerings like the ElevenMusic app. This collaboration marks the first time ElevenLabs has partnered with a major record label.

UMG is implementing an opt-in model for its artists and songwriters. Creators must explicitly consent before their content is made available for AI-driven remixing, ensuring they retain control over their work.

For participating artists, the platform is designed to generate a new revenue stream. Earnings from remixes and AI-generated vocal experiences will be directed back to the creators who have opted into the program.

This deal follows UMG's previous settlement with AI startup Udio, with which the label is developing a separate platform slated for a 2026 release. UMG also maintains AI licensing agreements with Spotify and Nvidia.

The industry trend shows major labels shifting toward controlling AI integration. Warner Music Group has also recently partnered with Suno to utilize its v6 models, moving away from purely litigious approaches.
