OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei are scheduled to brief the United Nations Security Council this Wednesday. The session focuses on the risks associated with artificial intelligence and its potential impact on international security.

The meeting will also feature contributions from Hugging Face CEO Clement Delangue and Yoshua Bengio, who serves as co-chair of the UN’s Independent International Scientific Panel on AI. The event is being convened by France.

Chinese AI firms DeepSeek and Moonshot have received invitations to provide statements. Sources indicate that DeepSeek intends to participate in the discussion, although its founder Liang Wenfeng is not expected to attend the session in person.

The UN Security Council first held formal discussions regarding artificial intelligence in 2023. Current deliberations are driven by rising concerns over the development of highly capable AI systems and the risk of losing human control over these technologies.
