The UK and US governments have signed two agreements to integrate artificial intelligence and advanced computing into nuclear fusion research. The deal was formalized on September 14, 2026, during the Global Fusion Summit in London.

A primary component of the partnership is a supercomputing collaboration between the UK Atomic Energy Authority and the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. These institutions will work together on high-performance computing applications for fusion science.

The second agreement focuses on regulatory alignment. Both nations intend to harmonize their licensing frameworks to simplify the transition from experimental reactor projects to commercial power generation.

These initiatives follow the 2025 Technology Prosperity Deal, which established AI and fusion technology as strategic priorities. The UK government expects the fusion sector to generate more than 10,000 new jobs by 2030.
