The ApusNeo solar-powered drone, developed by UAVOS, is currently undergoing long-endurance flight testing in Fuerteventura, Spain. The aircraft has already surpassed 80 hours of continuous flight time and is now aiming to reach a 100-hour milestone.

The drone features an 18-meter wingspan and a maximum takeoff weight of 47 kilograms. It is designed to carry a mission payload of approximately 3.4 kilograms. The system utilizes solar panels on its wings to power motors during the day while simultaneously charging onboard batteries for nocturnal flight operations.

ApusNeo has previously demonstrated its high-altitude capabilities, reaching 14,500 meters during a 29-hour flight on October 16. Earlier in September, the drone completed test flights lasting 29 and 52 hours, respectively. The company notes this is the first solar aircraft to reach such an altitude in European airspace.

UAVOS intends to deploy the drone for wildfire monitoring. The aircraft is equipped with an observation pod containing high-resolution cameras and infrared sensors capable of detecting heat sources and transmitting real-time data. A specific timeline for the commencement of formal operations has not been announced.
