Researchers at the Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR) have developed algorithms to enhance wireless communication using reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS). This technology manages radio wave reflection to direct signals toward receivers, improving transmission conditions.
The team created algorithms that calculate surface element settings based on radio channel characteristics, equipment placement, and technical constraints. They also developed software implementations, along with mathematical and simulation models to evaluate the performance of the proposed solution.
Computer simulations covered terrestrial, aerial, and satellite communication systems. The study analyzed how inaccuracies in RIS element configuration and incomplete radio channel data affect data transmission quality.
The project is part of the Priority-2030 program and won the university's scientific initiative competition for 2025–2036. Previously, TUSUR specialists developed a simplified prototype of an intelligent surface.
Future plans include hardware improvements and experimental validation of the algorithms. Researchers also aim to integrate these solutions directly into the software of RIS controllers for applications in urban environments, drone networks, industrial infrastructure, and satellite systems.
