President Donald Trump held a meeting with more than two dozen Silicon Valley executives at the White House on September 29, 2026. Following the discussion, the administration confirmed that it will not introduce new federal regulations for the artificial intelligence sector.
The president stated that current enforcement capabilities of the FBI and the Department of Justice, combined with industry self-regulation, are sufficient to manage risks. Notable attendees at the event included Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.
Prior to the meeting, industry leaders including Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and Jensen Huang lobbied against the formation of a federal regulatory body for AI modeled after the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. This proposed entity would have been industry-funded.
The administration has taken several steps to reduce barriers to AI development since 2025. In May 2026, officials abandoned a stricter regulatory draft following industry opposition. On June 2, 2026, an executive order introduced a voluntary 30-day review process for advanced models.
