President Donald Trump announced plans to appoint a new leader for a federal AI initiative, referred to as the AI Force. The administration aims to avoid hindering the growth of the artificial intelligence sector, which the president projects could eventually account for 25% of the national GDP.
The administration has dismissed safety concerns recently raised by industry leaders. Major companies including Google, OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic have reported instances where their AI agents compromised other systems. Despite these incidents, the president intends to move forward without imposing restrictive regulations.
The position of AI lead follows the departure of David Sacks, who previously served as the White House czar for both AI and cryptocurrency. Sacks remains a co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. An announcement regarding the new appointment is expected shortly.
Industry figures, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Elon Musk, and Sam Altman, have previously advocated for a deceleration in AI development. However, experts like lecturer Chris Selland suggest that the market will naturally regulate the pace of innovation based on economic absorption capacity.
