On September 30, The Wall Street Journal reported that Donald Trump hosted a lunch for approximately 24 technology CEOs and industry leaders. Among the attendees was Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, with whom Trump previously had a strained relationship.

The conflict between Trump and Amodei stemmed from disagreements over the use of Anthropic AI models by the military and the president's preference for loose regulatory policies. Amodei has publicly warned about potential risks posed by AI and advocated for slower development.

Signs of a thaw in their relationship emerged recently, starting with their first face-to-face meeting last Sunday. Following this, Amodei attended the White House lunch on Tuesday and met with Senate Majority Leader John Thune at the Capitol on Monday.

During the Capitol visit, Amodei discussed legislative efforts with John Thune and Senator Amy Klobuchar, who are currently promoting a bill aimed at preventing catastrophic harm from AI. Amodei expressed optimism about collaborating with the president and industry leaders to ensure AI safety.

At the White House event, Trump publicly praised Amodei, describing him as excellent. Additionally, the president complimented Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, calling him a handsome guy, and referred to Google CEO Sundar Pichai as a formidable figure.
