According to a report by Time magazine, President Donald Trump consulted Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, regarding a potential military operation in Venezuela. The meeting occurred in December 2025 in the Oval Office, with Musk present during the discussion.

Trump asked the AI to assess how the Venezuelan public would react to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. Grok described Maduro as unpopular and suggested that his removal might be celebrated by the local population.

The mission, known as Operation Absolute Resolve, was authorized by Trump in early January 2026. US forces, including the Delta Force, captured Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in Caracas on January 2–3, 2026.

Following the operation, Maduro and Flores were transported to the United States to face federal charges, including narco-terrorism conspiracy. Trump subsequently announced that the US would manage Venezuela until a stable government could be established.
