President Xi Jinping will visit Washington on September 24 for his first trip to the US capital in a decade. The summit with Donald Trump aims to address a trade truce expiring on November 10, with discussions focused on a potential $30 billion reciprocal tariff reduction framework.

The agenda includes agricultural commitments and energy trade. China previously pledged to buy 25 million metric tons of US soybeans annually through 2028 and added a commitment of $17 billion in other agricultural imports during a May 2026 meeting in Beijing.

Data from early September shows Chinese soybean purchases nearing 1 million metric tons. The talks will also cover rare earth minerals, where China holds a majority of global refining capacity, and potential adjustments to tariffs on US liquefied natural gas and crude oil exports.

Previous negotiations between the two nations referenced a deal for approximately 200 Boeing aircraft. Following a May 2026 meeting, the parties established US-China Boards of Trade and Investment to formalize dispute resolution channels.
