President Donald Trump met with technology industry leaders at the White House to discuss artificial intelligence. The parties signed a document described as having moral binding force, which establishes voluntary principles for the industry. The government is considering the formation of a 10-member committee to oversee the sector.
Trump stated that the administration will not halt AI development, emphasizing the importance of industry self-regulation. He also defended the construction of large-scale data centers, despite public opposition. The president plans to appoint a new head of AI affairs within the next three to four days.
The meeting was attended by executives including Jensen Huang of Nvidia, Elon Musk of Tesla and SpaceX, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Sundar Pichai of Google, and Satya Nadra of Microsoft. Other participants included Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI President Greg Brockman. Apple CEO John Ternus was not present.
The discussion occurred amid growing concerns over AI safety, following incidents involving unauthorized model actions and the delayed release of OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Astra model. During the event, the government also unveiled an AI chatbot designed for official government websites.
