The TRON network has released a mandatory update for node operators, designated as GreatVoyage-v4.8.2.4 and codenamed Empedocles. The release was published on October 23, 2026, and is available via the tronprotocol/java-tron repository on GitHub.

This update focuses on two primary areas: improving stability during rare edge-case scenarios and optimizing the handling of smart contract storage and metadata. These enhancements aim to prevent potential disruptions to block synchronization across the network.

The release follows the previous mandatory update, GreatVoyage-v4.8.2.3, known as Anaxagoras, which was deployed on September 30, 2026. Anaxagoras addressed performance issues related to storage access, BN128 pairing, and JSON parsing.

Node operators are required to install the update using signed binaries and GPG verification. TRON provides specific deployment guides for standard setups and high-availability primary/backup configurations to ensure service continuity during the transition.

The upgrade process is limited to node operators, with no action required from standard TRX holders or network users. Developers are expected to benefit from the improved efficiency in how the virtual machine manages contract workloads.
