Toyota announced the launch of a new Sora hydrogen fuel cell bus, which features a range exceeding 300 kilometers. This represents an increase of approximately 100 kilometers compared to the previous model. The vehicle was developed in collaboration with Isuzu Motors and utilizes an Isuzu chassis platform combined with Toyota’s fuel cell technology.
The new bus integrates a fuel cell system with a high-capacity battery to enhance performance. Toyota has redesigned the layout by placing the fuel cell system and hydrogen tanks on the roof to simplify maintenance. The interior now includes improved wheelchair fixation devices and updated safety equipment.
Isuzu also announced the launch of its first fuel cell bus, the Erga FCV. Production will take place at the Utsunomiya plant operated by J-Bus, a joint venture between Isuzu and Hino Motors. The vehicle shares a nearly identical structural design with the new Toyota Sora and offers a range of over 300 kilometers.
The Erga FCV includes advanced safety features such as a detection system for pedestrians and cyclists. The vehicle is also equipped with an emergency system that can automatically decelerate and stop the bus if the driver experiences sudden health issues or other anomalies. Pricing for the new model has not yet been disclosed.
