Tom Lee, head of research at Fundstrat, predicts a significant market rally by the end of the month. He identifies four primary drivers for this growth: cooling oil prices, declining Treasury yields, potential softening of the Federal Reserve's stance, and oversold market conditions.
Lee notes that the previous week represented a period of peak market pressure caused by high energy costs and a hawkish central bank. As inflation inputs like transport and energy expenses shift, he believes the Federal Reserve may adopt a more moderate tone, providing relief to risk-sensitive assets.
Technology stocks, particularly those linked to artificial intelligence, are currently leading the market recovery. Lee highlights that AMD has reached a valuation of $1 trillion, reflecting strong investor interest in the sector. He maintains his target for the S&P 500 index at 8,000 points for this month.
Jay Woods of Freedom Capital Markets suggests that the S&P 500 is currently testing the 7,600 level. While he expects strength in software and chip stocks to push the index toward 7,800, he remains cautious about the sustainability of the rally without broader confirmation from upcoming corporate earnings.
The market's future direction may depend on the upcoming financial report from Micron. Lee also points out that historical trends show cryptocurrency rallies in August often precede stock market movements by approximately one month, suggesting a potential correlation in current market sentiment.
