The Thai Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed new regulations for stablecoin transactions. The draft, approved for consultation on September 3, 2026, sets a daily transfer limit of THB 5 million, or approximately $151,000, per licensed digital asset operator.

The framework mandates that all transfers must involve wallets verified as belonging to the customer, effectively banning third-party transfers. Additionally, transaction limits will be tied to the verified income and financial status of each user, adding a new layer of KYC requirements.

Exemptions apply to transactions between Thai-supervised operators that follow the Travel Rule, as well as specific business transfers authorized by the Bank of Thailand. The regulator is accepting feedback on these proposals until September 25, 2026.

These measures follow concerns raised by the Bank of Thailand in July 2026 regarding abnormal trading volumes in Tether USDT, which the central bank linked to the evasion of banking disclosures. The new rules serve as a precursor to the broader Travel Rule implementation scheduled for February 27, 2027.
