Fifteen companies and projects have joined the Mining Development Kit (MDK) initiative, an open-source toolset from Tether designed to automate Bitcoin mining operations. Participants, including Bitmain, Canaan, Bitdeer, MicroBT, F2Pool, Foundry Digital, Luxor Technology, OCEAN, and Block’s Proto division, have committed to integrating their hardware and services with the platform.

Each participant will develop an MDK Worker module to link their equipment, pools, or software systems to a unified interface. This architecture allows developers to manage diverse infrastructure—including miners, sensors, cooling systems, and power equipment—through a single framework. The modules translate specific system commands into a standardized format, enabling the creation of dashboards and AI agents.

Tether introduced the MDK in April to address the complexity of managing large-scale mining farms that utilize hardware from multiple manufacturers. According to CEO Paolo Ardoino, the toolset enables software to actively control physical infrastructure rather than merely monitoring it. The company’s own AI mining agent, QVAC, already operates using this framework.

The MDK version 0.11 was released to coincide with the Plan B forum in Lugano, held on October 23–24. Tether intends to launch the first stable version 1.0 before the end of the year. The source code is currently available for developers to test integrations and build custom modules.
