Tencent is preparing to launch an AI-powered search engine for retail users. The platform will feature a minimalist interface and integrate AI Q&A capabilities directly into the web search experience, with a specific focus on prioritizing authoritative sources.

The new consumer-facing tool shares its underlying infrastructure with the Yuanbao app's built-in search and the Tencent Cloud Yuanbao Search API. These services are essentially different product manifestations of the same core technology developed by the company.

Tencent recently released the Yuanbao Search service for business clients, which had been operating internally for several years. The service currently supports three integration methods: Skill, MCP, and API. Users with an invitation code can make up to 6,000 calls during October and November.

The search team was formed in mid-2024 by integrating core technologies from QQ Browser and Sogou Search. This initiative aims to leverage Tencent's decade of experience in search algorithms and engineering to provide infrastructure for the AI agent era.

Previously, these search capabilities were restricted to internal use within QQ Browser and Sogou. With the rise of AI agents, Tencent is now transitioning its search technology into a cloud service to monetize it externally, moving beyond its historical focus on internal and existing clients.
