Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic have been holding regular meetings since July to discuss the creation of an industry-led standards body for artificial intelligence. These discussions aim to establish voluntary safety protocols for auditing and testing AI technology.

The initiative gained momentum following a proposal by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who advocated for a slowdown in development due to safety concerns. His call for self-regulation received support from industry leaders, including Sam Altman of OpenAI, Demis Hassabis of Google DeepMind, and Elon Musk.

Sam Altman noted that major AI labs should form this standards organization independently, without waiting for U.S. government intervention. This approach mirrors a suggestion from Demis Hassabis, who previously proposed a regulatory body modeled after the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

Separate research from PYMNTS Intelligence highlights that the depth of AI integration determines financial success. Over 90% of enterprises embedding AI into three or more functions report positive returns, compared to just over half of those using the technology in only one or two areas.
