TE Connectivity has introduced the TE MINI FAKRA coaxial connector system, specifically engineered for data transmission in modern connected, automated, and software-defined vehicles. The system is designed to address the increasing need for high-speed connectivity within space-constrained automotive architectures.
The new connectors deliver RF performance reaching 9 GHz and support data rates of up to 24 Gbps. These capabilities are intended for use in advanced driver assistance systems, surround-view and front-facing cameras, digital cockpits, infotainment units, antenna modules, and V2X communication systems.
The hardware supports various industry protocols, including GMSL2/3, FPD-Link III/IV, APIX3, MIPI, and the Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA). The design is compatible with existing Mini FAKRA interfaces and cavities, facilitating integration into current manufacturing processes.
The system offers significant space savings, requiring up to 75% less room than standard FAKRA connectors. It incorporates features such as controlled insertion force and anti-stubbing mechanisms to enhance mating robustness and protect contacts from potential damage during assembly.
