Greater Bay Technology (GBT) has launched series production of all-solid-state battery cells at its Nansha facility in Guangzhou. The company converted 1 GWh of existing lithium-ion production capacity to manufacture these new cells, with the potential to convert the remaining 4 GWh of plant capacity based on future demand.
The GBT cells comply with the new Chinese standard GB/T 48093-2026, which requires cells to lose less than 0.5% mass after six hours of vacuum baking at 120 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the batteries passed safety testing under the GB 38031-2025 standard, including nail penetration tests that resulted in no fire or explosion.
The production process utilizes an organic-inorganic composite electrolyte injected as a liquid precursor and solidified in place. This allows the use of standard lithium-ion equipment, with only the electrolyte-filling station requiring modifications for curing in an oxygen-free environment. The line remains capable of switching back to lithium-ion production.
GBT’s platform supports energy densities ranging from 260 to 480 Wh/kg. The initial generation uses automotive-grade pouch formats and established electrode materials, while future iterations will incorporate lithium-metal anodes. The company transitioned from A-samples in April to series production in October.
The company has established strategic partnerships to integrate its technology. These include agreements with Hubei Liming Lithium Technology for battery packs, the Shenzhen Vertical Take-off and Landing Aircraft Innovation Center for eVTOL development, and the European electric light commercial vehicle developer FLYNT.
