Starting October 26, the Swedish Government Offices will restrict access to ChatGPT and Claude on official work computers. Digital Director Mikael Vettercrantz stated that the measure aims to ensure employees use only approved AI tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, which has undergone internal security hardening.
The policy does not constitute a total ban, as some staff will retain access to these models via a dedicated internal platform developed by the government. This decision follows previous restrictions on the use of DeepSeek. Other Swedish agencies, including the Tax Agency and the National Board of Institutional Care, have implemented similar policies.
The move follows a security audit at the Swedish Transport Agency, which identified risky usage of approximately 10 AI services. The audit revealed instances where sensitive information was entered into open systems. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Authority is currently developing its own internal guidelines regarding AI usage.
