Superhuman, formerly known as Grammarly, has acquired the AI detection platform GPTZero. The deal was announced on June 23, 2026, though the specific financial terms were not disclosed. According to PitchBook, the startup was valued at over $88 million, and reports suggest investors achieved at least a 10x return on the total funding raised.

GPTZero was founded by Edward Tian and Alex Cui while they were students at Princeton. Since its public launch in January 2023, the platform has grown to serve more than 20 million registered users and generates $30 million in annual recurring revenue. The company reached profitability in 2024 with a team of approximately 30 employees.

The startup raised a total of $13.5 million in venture capital. This included a $3.5 million seed round in 2023 led by Uncork Capital and Neo, followed by a $10 million Series A in June 2024 led by Footwork. The company maintained a lean funding history before its acquisition.

Superhuman plans to integrate GPTZero’s technology, which includes AI detection, hallucination checking, and plagiarism detection, into its AI assistant, Superhuman Go. The assistant currently operates across more than 1 million apps and websites. GPTZero will continue to function as an independent product for its existing user base.
