Sumo Logic has introduced an expanded Data Pipelines service designed to allow customers to filter and reroute telemetry data before it is ingested or stored. The new controls are integrated directly into the company's existing platform, aiming to address rising costs associated with the high volume of data collected by security and operations teams.

The service includes a live preview feature that demonstrates the impact of routing rules before they are activated, such as moving data to lower-cost tiers or external destinations. Additionally, an AI-powered assistant helps write these rules, reducing the time required for configuration. The system also flags data anomalies and format shifts in real time.

Sumo Logic currently processes nearly seven exabytes of data daily for thousands of clients. According to a Gartner report from September 2, the practice of ingesting all operational data has become financially unsustainable, while poor-quality telemetry hinders the performance of generative AI and large language models.

The company plans to release further updates later this year, including a visual, AI-assisted tool for shaping telemetry from cloud and edge sources. Future developments include a platform-neutral version for data sent to other vendors and an OpenTelemetry-native management layer to centralize configuration and monitoring.

Sumo Logic is currently owned by Francisco Partners, which acquired the company in 2023 for $1,7 billion. The updated pipeline capabilities are being showcased this week at the Gartner Security and Risk Management Summit in London.
