The layer-1 blockchain Sui achieved a throughput of 40,614,180 transactions per second during a live stress test conducted at the Sui Basecamp event in Singapore. This result marks a significant increase from the 6.1 million TPS recorded in a previous test held in July.
The test utilized programmable offchain tunnels, which are channels designed to handle high-frequency interactions, such as those between AI agents, without requiring every transaction to be settled directly on the blockchain. These tunnels settle to the mainnet only upon closure.
During the demonstration, more than 10,000 tunnels were opened on the Sui mainnet. The processed activity included various use cases such as payments, gaming, and chat applications. The company noted that this architecture is intended to support high-frequency daily transactions for millions of AI agents.
CertiK acted as an independent auditor for the stress test. The firm is currently reviewing the data collected during the event, and a final report regarding the performance metrics is expected to be released in the coming days.
