Sui has officially launched GraphQL subscriptions on its Mainnet, enabling developers to stream real-time blockchain data. The system utilizes WebSocket connections via the wss://sui-mainnet.mystenlabs.com/graphql endpoint to provide updates on checkpoints, transaction blocks, and events.

The new functionality replaces the legacy JSON-RPC system, which was fully phased out on Foundation nodes in late July 2026. This transition follows the beta release of GraphQL RPC in 2025 and its general availability in early 2026.

The subscription model allows for persistent connections, eliminating the need for repetitive polling. Developers can utilize native GraphQL filtering to process data directly, and the system supports cursor-based backfilling to recover missed data after disconnections.

This unified interface simplifies development by allowing access to both historical and live data through a single protocol. While it complements the existing gRPC streaming option for high-throughput needs, GraphQL subscriptions provide a more accessible format for web and mobile applications.
