Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa stated during an analyst meeting on September 10 that the global automotive market is currently divided into two distinct segments: the United States and the rest of the world. This separation is driven by diverging trade and policy environments that complicate international operations.
The United States remains the primary source of profit for Stellantis. Due to unique local regulations and specific consumer preferences, the company relies exclusively on domestic engineering and research resources for its American vehicle lineup.
In contrast, for markets in Europe and other regions, Stellantis pursues a different strategy by collaborating with Chinese manufacturers such as Leapmotor and Dongfeng. The company explicitly excludes these partnerships from any development plans intended for the US market.
The strategy of partnering with Chinese firms has faced scrutiny from US officials. The White House previously criticized Ford for its joint venture with Geely in Europe, arguing that such cooperation assists Chinese automakers in expanding their global presence.
