Starknet has updated its Stwo prover, reducing peak memory consumption for transaction proofs from 13.9 GiB to 2.1 GiB. This optimization enables smartphones to generate cryptographic proofs locally, eliminating the need to send sensitive data to remote servers.
The Stwo prover replaced the previous Stone prover on the Starknet mainnet on November 3, 2025. It currently manages proving for all network blocks as part of a broader roadmap by Starkware to lower costs through client-side and decentralized proving.
While 2.1 GiB is sufficient for individual transaction proofs, memory requirements for larger workloads can exceed 20 GiB. Starkware is also developing recursive proving techniques to reduce proof sizes and is working on integrating post-quantum signature support.
The capability for on-device proof generation has already been tested, with millions of local ZK proofs produced across thousands of different smartphone models.
