SpaceX aims to launch mass production of chips at its Terafab facility in Texas by the third quarter of 2028. Elon Musk noted that these timelines are extremely aggressive and subject to significant uncertainty.
The company expects to produce the first test SRAM chips at its research center in Austin by May or June 2027. Suppliers, including ASML, have agreed to expedite the delivery of necessary manufacturing equipment.
The Terafab project involves building a large-scale chip production complex in partnership with other companies. The facility is intended to produce enough AI chips annually to provide 1 terawatt of computing power.
Intel is currently a partner in the project and may provide its 14A technology for chip manufacturing. Negotiations with TSMC are ongoing, though the parties have not yet reached an agreement regarding control over production capacities.
