Sony Group has officially announced its decision to withdraw from the CES consumer electronics show starting in 2027. This move marks the end of a multi-decade presence for the company at the Las Vegas event, where it had been a regular exhibitor since the inaugural show in 1967.

The company's strategic shift involves prioritizing its entertainment content business, including gaming, music, and film divisions. Sony representatives stated that they will continue to evaluate their external communication methods and event participation based on the evolving needs and priorities of their diverse business units.

The decision also follows the termination of the joint venture between Sony and Honda. The partnership, established in 2022 to develop the Afeela electric vehicle, was previously a focal point of Sony's presence at CES. The companies have decided to cease the project and are currently re-evaluating the future of the joint entity.

Despite exiting the consumer electronics exhibition, Sony remains a key supplier of image sensors for the automotive industry. Company executives noted that they continue to see potential for new forms of in-car entertainment, even as the importance of CES as a primary strategic platform for the firm declines.
