Sony has introduced a lottery-based purchasing system for the PlayStation 5 Pro in Japan to manage supply constraints caused by global DRAM shortages. This mechanism aims to prioritize dedicated users who have demonstrated significant engagement with the platform.
To qualify for the lottery, applicants must have recorded at least 60 hours of playtime. The company will track these hours specifically within the two-year window spanning from September 27, 2024, to September 27, 2026, to ensure the validity of the activity.
Interested users must submit their applications by October 7. Sony plans to notify winners on October 26, granting them the opportunity to purchase the console at its manufacturer's suggested retail price.
Successful applicants are required to complete their purchase by November 2. If the deadline is missed, the reserved units will be reallocated to a subsequent drawing scheduled for later this year.
