Sony has released four system updates for the PlayStation 5 console over the past five weeks. The latest firmware version, 14.20, appears to address a security vulnerability associated with the ARM Cortex-A53 coprocessor.

The A53 exploit allowed attackers to execute arbitrary code within the coprocessor firmware. By accessing the console's debug communication interface, users could read and write to A53 memory, effectively bypassing security verification mechanisms.

Previously, the Relapse jailbreak exploit chain targeted firmware versions up to 13.60 by leveraging vulnerabilities in the main system layer. This method was disclosed publicly in late September 2026.

On October 18, developer Gezine demonstrated a method to access hidden debug settings on firmware version 14.10. While Sony released the 14.20 update shortly thereafter, there is currently no confirmation that this specific debug entry point has been patched.
