Sony has officially confirmed its decision to skip the CES 2027 exhibition in Las Vegas. This move marks the end of a 60-year tradition, as the company had participated in the event since its inception in 1967. A spokesperson for the corporation stated that neither Sony nor its affiliates intend to host a booth at the January show.

The company's previous presence at CES was largely driven by the Sony Honda Mobility joint venture, which showcased the Afeela electric vehicle prototype. However, in March, the partners canceled the Afeela 1 sedan and a planned SUV following a strategic review of Honda's electrification plans. The future of the joint venture remains under evaluation by both parties.

Beyond the automotive sector, Sony is restructuring its consumer hardware operations. TCL recently acquired a 51 percent stake in a new joint venture that will manage Sony's home entertainment business, including the Bravia television line. The company noted that its strategic focus is shifting toward entertainment, intellectual property, and technology for creators.

While Sony did not have a dedicated booth at CES 2026, the Afeela prototype served as a primary reason for its continued involvement. The absence of the PlayStation brand at the upcoming event is also expected, signaling a broader departure from the trade show circuit. This decision reflects a long-term trend of the company reducing its reliance on traditional consumer electronics exhibitions.
