Sony Group and its affiliated companies will not participate in the CES 2027 exhibition. This marks the first time in 60 years that the corporation will be absent from the event. The company stated that its business focus has shifted toward entertainment sectors, including gaming and music, which has reduced the strategic value of attending the consumer electronics show.

Sony maintained a continuous presence at CES from 1967 through 2025. In 2026, the company did not exhibit independently, but its joint venture with Honda, Sony Honda Mobility, showcased the AFEELA electric vehicle, PlayStation consoles, and spatial capture technologies. Sony noted that it will continue to collaborate with the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) in other capacities.

The company has not yet decided on its participation plans for 2028 and beyond. Industry observers suggest that securing prime exhibition space at CES often depends on long-term, continuous participation. Consequently, it remains unclear whether Sony could regain its traditional, high-visibility locations near the entrance if it chooses to return to the event in the future.

In addition to Sony, Panasonic Holdings has also announced its decision to skip CES 2027. This move by Panasonic is notable as the company had also been a consistent participant in the exhibition for 60 years.
