Sollers Group is launching a project to localize the production of 8-speed automatic transmissions for light commercial vehicles in Russia. The total investment for this initiative is estimated at 500 ₽ million.
The manufacturing process will be split between two locations: Zavolzhye will handle the casting and machining of transmission housings, while Yelabuga will focus on final assembly and testing. The facilities aim for an annual capacity of 13,700 units.
The project is supported by a 395 ₽ million loan from the Industrial Development Fund under the Auto Components program. Chinese manufacturer JAC serves as the technological partner for the development.
The new transmissions are slated for use in Sollers S9 SUVs, ST8 and ST9 pickups, and SF1 commercial vehicles, with plans to include the SF5 model later. Serial production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027.
Company leadership expects the move to improve quality control and expand the product lineup. Analysts note that local production will help mitigate currency risks, lower costs, and increase eligibility for recycling fee subsidies.
