SoftBank has finalized its $30 billion follow-on investment in OpenAI. On October 1, 2026, the company transferred the third and final tranche of $10 billion, bringing its total cumulative investment in the AI developer to $64.6 billion. This transaction secures SoftBank an approximate 13% ownership stake in OpenAI.
The funding round, which concluded in February 2026, saw OpenAI raise between $110 billion and $122 billion. At that time, the company reached a pre-money valuation of approximately $730 billion, with a post-money valuation ranging from $840 billion to $852 billion. The capital is designated for expanding compute and data center infrastructure.
Major participants in the round included Amazon, which committed $50 billion, though portions of this amount are contingent upon OpenAI achieving specific milestones. Nvidia contributed $30 billion during the February round. Contrary to market speculation, Nvidia did not finalize an additional $10 billion tranche in October.
Future developments to monitor include the realization of Amazon's milestone-linked funding, the deployment speed of OpenAI's new compute capacity, and the stability of the company's valuation in subsequent fundraising efforts.
