SNK and Plaion have officially announced a delay for the NeoGeo AES+ console relaunch. The device, originally expected earlier, is now scheduled for release on September 16, 2027. This adjustment represents a 10-month postponement compared to the initial timeline.
The companies cited global component shortages as the primary reason for the delay. According to the statement, the supply chain constraints prevented the production of sufficient units to ensure a simultaneous global launch. The extra time will be used to scale manufacturing capacity and secure necessary parts.
Existing pre-orders remain valid and will retain their original priority status without price increases. Customers who have already placed orders do not need to take any action. Furthermore, all units from the initial production batch will include a special 'Founders Supporter Reward' as a gesture of appreciation.
The NeoGeo AES+ will feature modern upgrades such as 1080p output, low-latency HDMI connectivity, and an on-screen BIOS. Users will also be able to utilize DIP switches located at the bottom of the console to adjust language settings, select display modes, or overclock the hardware. The system maintains full compatibility with original game cartridges.
Both the standard edition and the 35th Anniversary edition of the console are priced at £179.99. Additionally, a selection of game cartridges will be available for purchase at £69.99 each. The original NeoGeo AES console was first introduced in 1990 and gained recognition for its arcade-quality gaming performance.
