Snap has introduced Specs Intelligence, an AI service designed to function as a proactive digital assistant rather than a standard chatbot. The system connects to user-authorized applications to build a long-term profile of personal goals, habits, and priorities, allowing it to anticipate needs and provide context-aware support.
The service integrates with productivity tools such as Gmail and Slack. Key features include 'Corners' for organizing tasks by category and 'Goals' for tracking long-term objectives. Users can interact with the AI via natural language, while the system automatically prepares meeting materials or summarizes travel itineraries based on upcoming schedules.
Specs Intelligence is currently available as a preview for users aged 18 and older in the United States via the iOS Specs app. A Mac version is accessible through an invite-only waitlist. While designed to work with Snap's new augmented reality glasses, the service remains fully functional on iPhone and Mac devices without the hardware.
The architecture utilizes a hybrid model approach, combining open-source models hosted in US data centers with on-device large language models. Snap states that user data is not used for training or fine-tuning its AI models, nor for personalized advertising, and remains under the user's control regarding access permissions.
