The .si domain, traditionally associated with Slovenia, is experiencing a surge in registrations following a U.S. executive order. President Trump mandated that government agencies refer to artificial intelligence as super intelligence, or SI.
Registry SI reported a 2,199% increase in domain purchases during September. On September 30, the day after the order, 11,000 new addresses were recorded, followed by nearly 13,000 registrations in the subsequent 24 hours.
Hostinger identified .si as its second most popular domain extension after .com. The platform recorded 4,300 registrations on September 30 and 5,400 on October 1, with over half of the buyers located in the U.S. and India.
Data indicates that only 3% of these new .si domains are explicitly related to AI, suggesting a speculative trend. Some founders are acquiring these domains as digital assets, anticipating potential resale value.
While demand is rising, experts note that .si remains an affordable alternative to .ai. At Hostinger, a .si domain costs approximately $12 per year, whereas .ai domains are priced at $90 with a two-year commitment.
