Singular Photonics has unveiled Litavis, a CMOS sensor built on single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) technology. The sensor integrates image acquisition, photon arrival timing, histogram generation, and statistical analysis directly into the pixel architecture. This on-chip processing capability reduces the volume of raw data transmitted to external processors, potentially lowering system latency and power consumption.
The sensor features a 256×256 resolution for continuous photon-counting in low-light conditions. It also supports event registration with picosecond-level timing accuracy on a 64×64 macropixel grid. The architecture is software-configurable, allowing users to switch between modes such as TCSPC, programmable time windows, and coincidence detection without hardware changes.
Designed for scientific, medical, and industrial applications, the sensor is intended for use in robotics, machine vision, AI perception systems, and fluorescence microscopy. Singular Photonics reports that it has already secured a significant number of pre-orders from international organizations. The company plans to showcase the technology at the SPIE Sensors + Imaging and VISION exhibitions.
