Shopify and Meta have announced a partnership to integrate the Shop Pay checkout solution into Meta’s Muse AI agent. This collaboration aims to enable agentic checkout across all Shopify stores, allowing users to complete purchases directly through the AI interface.
Shop Pay is Shopify’s accelerated checkout tool that supports one-tap payments. As of June, the service reached a lifetime gross merchandise volume exceeding $400 billion. Shopify CFO Jeff Hoffmeister noted that agentic commerce technology could significantly boost conversion rates, citing internal data showing an 80% uplift.
Meta introduced Muse on September 8 as a personal AI agent accessible via a dedicated app and WhatsApp. While the tool is expanding its reach through the Shopify integration, it faces resistance from other platforms. On September 20, Amazon reportedly blocked Muse from its site, citing concerns over potential security and privacy risks related to customer credentials.
