UK-based startup Shield Space has launched the UK Space Superiority Coalition to provide commercial defense capabilities for UK and NATO forces in orbit. The initiative aims to develop a space-based carrier strike force capable of deploying swarms of interceptors to deter threats.
The coalition includes several UK space companies, such as AstroAnalytica, Goonhilly, Magdrive, Mutable Tactics, Optera, and Third Planet Orbital. The group focuses on creating interoperable systems to respond to orbital threats, initially prioritizing non-kinetic capabilities.
The coalition's first proposed mission, Project SPEAR, is designed to integrate member technologies into a single system for sensing and responding to threats. While the project awaits UK government approval, it is aligned with the country's 2026 space strategy requirements for space control.
