Severstal is expanding the deployment of its Sova digital platform, designed to monitor workplace safety compliance at the Cherepovets Steel Mill. The company reports that the system has increased the detection of potentially hazardous actions by 25% in the workshops where it is currently operational.

The Sova platform utilizes computer vision technology to analyze video feeds from existing surveillance cameras in real time. It monitors 10 distinct types of safety violations, including the improper use of personal protective equipment, unauthorized entry into dangerous zones, and non-compliance with height or loading protocols.

The system was developed internally by Severstal's IT and occupational safety teams. Since its initial rollout in late 2024, the platform has grown to cover over 700 cameras across 40 workshops at the Cherepovets Steel Mill, Severstal-metiz, and the Yakovlevsky Mining and Processing Plant.

Looking ahead, Severstal plans to enhance the platform's capabilities by integrating large language models and geolocation data. Future updates aim to enable the system to recognize critical scenarios, such as falls from heights or fires, with the ultimate goal of predicting and preventing accidents before they occur.
