The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) has reached a ratio of 1.45 against the S&P 500, marking its lowest level since April 2026. This represents a 24% decline from the peak observed in mid-June 2026.

Since mid-June, the SOX index has fallen by approximately 24%, while the S&P 500 has gained about 2%. The index recently experienced eight consecutive losing sessions, the longest streak since October 2008, resulting in a 16% decline during that period.

On October 16, 2026, the index closed at 11,137.29, with all 30 constituent stocks ending the session lower. Major companies including Broadcom, Micron, AMD, Intel, Lam Research, and KLA saw declines of about 5%, while Arm shares dropped by roughly 7%.

The market downturn for semiconductor and AI-linked companies has resulted in a loss of more than $1 trillion in market value. Investors are expressing concerns regarding high debt levels at AI-focused cloud providers like CoreWeave and the impact of rising financing costs due to inflation.
